Emaline S. Brunke, aged 101 of Fountain, passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Tendercare of Ludington. Emaline was born on July 17, 1911 in Filer City to August and Emma (Springborn) Hilden. On September 21, 1936 she married Leo Brunke, and they celebrated 36 years together until Leo preceded her in death on January 5, 1973.

Emaline lived in Fountain for many years and also spent a lot of her time at their cottage on Ford Lake. When Leo was working on the car ferries during the summertime, the cottage is where you would find her. She never learned to drive, but that never kept her homebound, as she loved to walk. Emaline and Leo were active members of Fountain United Methodist Church, where Emaline served as the church Treasurer for many years. She loved tending to her flowers, caring for her dogs, and really enjoyed fishing. Her greatest joy aside from her beloved Leo was in the presence of her nieces and nephews, caring for them as her own. In her later years, she has had the pleasure of being a “grandmother” to her great nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband, Emaline was preceded in death by her parents, a child, and her brothers and sisters. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her nieces and nephews, and her dear friend.

A Memorial Service will be held for Emaline later in the spring at the Stephens Funeral Home in Scottville, with burial to follow at Bachelor Cemetery in Fountain.
